TfL selects Four for Tour de France Grand Depart brief

31 October 2006 : Transport for London (TfL) today confirmed that it had selected Four Sports Marketing & Sponsorship to support public relations for the Tour de France Grand Depart 2007. The world's largest annual sporting event will be hosted in London and Kent next year. London will host the Tour de France Opening Ceremony and Tour Prologue on July 6 & 7, with Stage 1 on July 8 departing London and finishing in Canterbury Kent. The event will be London's biggest international sporting occasion ahead of the London 2012 Olympics. Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone and TfL are bringing the Tour to London to enhance London's reputation as a major world city and destination, capable of hosting world-class events. It is also intended to support the Mayor and TfL's drive to encourage more Londoners to cycle in the capital. Cycling has increased by 72% in London since 2000. TfL is working closely with the Mayor and Visit London to promote the event.
TfL Chief Press Officer Operations, Stuart Ross said: 'We are really looking forward to hosting the Tour de France Grand Depart next July. It is exciting to have such a major world sporting event come to London, together with the visitors we hope it will attract, not to mention the boost to cycling in London. Four showed us they understood our priorities and we're keen get started right away.'
Four has been appointed ahead of the full Tour de France route launch in Paris, on October 26. Four Sports Marketing & Sponsorship is part of Four Communications Group plc.
