On Friday 10 April, Priya Shah from Four Public Affairs will be walking 25km to work. Setting off at 6am to start the journey from Stanmore to London Bridge, Priya will be fundraising for Human Care Syria, a cause which is very important to her.
Priya said: “March 2015 marked the fourth anniversary of the Syrian conflict and there are now almost 4 million refugees, 11 million Syrians in need and over 200,000 deaths. The conflict is unlikely to end in the near future and these figures will only increase. Having worked on and written about Syria over the last year, this is a cause that is truly important to me.
“Human Care Syria are supporting thousands of Syrians on the ground, in Syria and surrounding countries, providing emergency humanitarian aid in the form of shelter, food and even baby milk; medical aid in the form of medical kits and equipment for Syrian doctors; and infrastructure programmes, rebuilding Syria’s education and medical system, as well as providing platforms for Syrians to start their own businesses.
“Refugee lives matter. Everyday a child is born in a refugee camp; this is their accommodation- not their home- it's unstable, crowded and unsafe. Worst of all, these children are stateless.
“Some may say I am insane walking for 5 hours and then working for the rest of the day. There are almost 4 million Syrian refugees – my suffering is self-inflicted, theirs is not.”
