On July 3, 2012, a remarkable “Grand Event” will unfold in Solent Water, off Southampton.
For the first time ever, all seven ships in the P&O Cruises fleet will converge in formation together, to mark the high point of a year’s celebrations for the cruise line’s 175th Anniversary, as one of Britain’s oldest and most famous brands. Each ship will then depart on its own Grand Event Cruise to different parts of the world, in a glittering evening flutterfetti send off.
Four Communications has been appointed to work alongside P&O Cruise’s in-house PR department to handle a consumer programme, and to co-ordinate news and picture media logistics for the Grand Event. P&O Cruises PR team will retain all liaisons with travel editors, cruise writers and the travel trade press.
Starting life as The Peninsular Steam Navigation Company with a lucrative Admiralty contract to carry mail to the Iberian Peninsula and beyond, the company developed into cruising as P&O Cruises. Their ships have been launched by HM The Queen; HRH Princess Royal (on two occasions); Dame Kelly Holmes; Dame Helen Mirren; Darcey Bussell and Dame Shirley Bassey.
“We are delighted to draft in the proven creative powers of Steve Gebbett and his team at Four Communications to add extra consumer firepower to our very special year and “Grand Event” in 2012,” said P&O Cruises public relations head, Michele Andjel
“P&O Cruises always does things in style and as Britain's favourite cruise line it will be a momentous and celebratory year for all our passengers and crew. The Grand Event will be a very special, historic occasion.”
