P&O Cruises call in Four Communications for Britain's biggest cruise ship naming ceremony

Dame Helen Mirren and the Royal Marines set to break the champagne to name P&O Cruises "Ventura" 29 February 2008 Project PR for the naming of "Ventura", at 117,000 tons the largest cruise ship built exclusively for the British market, has been handed to Four Communications, working in conjunction with the P&O Cruises in-house PR department.
The spectacular evening naming ceremony, scheduled for Southampton on April 16, will be led by the Ventura's Official Godmother, Dame Helen Mirren, who will delegate the task of successfully smashing the champagne against the hull to a crack team of Royal Marine Commandos abseiling down the 17 decks of the ship. The Marines were called in on the recommendation of Four to ensure the bubbly breaks, as several previous cruise ship namings have been somewhat tested by champagne bottles that resolutely failed to smash at the required moment.
Four's appointment was made, without pitch, by P&O Cruises' head of PR, Michele Andjel who said "We wanted additional creative agency resource to supplement our in-house PR campaign which is aimed principally at travel and travel trade media, and Four has a proven reputation for creative delivery across all media channels."
At Four, the project team will be lead by industry veteran and Four consumer director, Steve Gebbett, reporting to Andjel. "P&O Cruises is a leading player in a buoyant UK Cruising market which carried over 1.3 million passengers last year, and the introduction of "Ventura" to service is a significant milestone for their brand". Broadcast consultant Shout! has also been brought in by Four to offer live interview opportunities from the ship. Ventura will carry, at full capacity, nearly 3,600 passengers and 1,200 crew, and the naming ceremony will be performed in front of 1,500 invited guests. Also on board on April 16 will be Ventura's consultant celebrity chef, Marco Pierre White, and children's favourite Noddy.
