Joint success for Four Communications and APACS in-house team

7th November 2005: At the Communicators in Business (CiB) Communications in Excellence Awards 2005 the chip and PIN press office team celebrated after picking up not only the award for Customer Campaign of the Year for which it was shortlisted but also the Gold Award for External Campaign of the Year - fighting off stiff competition from HBOS, Coors, Prudential UK Europe and the NHS.
The press office team - made up of the in-house team from APACS, the UK payments association, and the agency team at Four Communications - was congratulated on what the judges referred to as the 'stellar qualities' of a campaign that 'serves as a model to others and deserves a wider and sustained airing - to enlighten and encourage other would-be communication campaigners.'
Nan Williams, managing partner of Four Communications and responsible for the chip and PIN communications strategy and implementation over the last three years said: 'Receiving peer recognition is always rewarding, and we're delighted that we were able to celebrate not one but two awards with the in-house communications team at APACS.
Picking up the Gold Award was a real surprise for all of us, and the judges' comments were highly complimentary.
' 'The chip and PIN campaign is one of the biggest consumer campaigns of recent years and needed to reach all 42 million cardholders across the UK. Working closely with APACS and the British Retail Consortium (BRC) in addition to retailer and banking stakeholders allowed us to create a fully integrated and successful campaign with results that speak for themselves - a fall in card fraud in 2005 for the first time this century and 87 per cent of cardholders citing chip and PIN as 'easy to use'.
The Four Communications team continues to work closely with the APACS team and the BRC on the final stage of the chip and PIN rollout, the I LOVE PIN campaign to encourage chip and PIN cardholders to use their PIN every time they shop. After 14 February 2006, chip and PIN cardholders will need to remember their PIN to be sure they can pay in shops, bars, restaurants and other businesses.
