Four Travel hosted a sailing-themed press trip to Barbados recently, to watch Team Concise not only smash the long-standing ‘Mount Gay Round the Island Race’ record, but to give a group of lucky journalists the opportunity to take a ride on Ms Barbados – a MOD 70 trimaran which is 70ft in length and 50ft wide.
Team Concise is a young sailing crew based out of the Hamble in Southampton. Launched in 2006, they exist to give young British sailors a future in competitive offshore racing, and the journalists in attendance are a group of only around 100 people in the world to have ever had this experience. The race was hotly anticipated on account of the U.S team being tipped as favourites, and the stakes were made even higher by the winner skipper receiving their weight in Mount Gay Rum.
Following the jubilant win, Team Concise CEO Tony Lawson couldn’t resist a competitive tweet saying; @MsBarbados – winner by 12 seconds. Job done! The group, consisting of journalists from the Daily Telegraph, SportStylist, Yachting World, Luxuria Lifestyle and Practical Boat Owner revelled in their boat-based blast around the beautiful south-coast, where they had an opportunity to take in the scenery before heading out to the newly opened Cliff Beach Club where they were hosted by Team Concise and partied the night away with their Ministry of Sound DJ, Jack Francis.
