Four partners with venture philanthropy pioneer Impetus Trust

6th June 06: Four Communications has become the official public relations and marketing partner for Impetus Trust - the UK pioneer of venture philanthropy. Four will support Impetus in its PR and marketing as well as working with the charities in which it invests. Impetus provides charitable funding and support for mid-size charities which are trying to achieve a step-change in their impact. Based on a venture capital model, Impetus manages the funds actively to build capacity and skills within the charities and helps with hands-on consulting and other management support for charities, through a pool of associate volunteers drawn primarily from the business world.

The current Impetus portfolio includes five core charities: Speaking Up (providing services for people with learning difficulties) St Giles Trust (working with prisoners and ex-offenders) The Eating Disorders Associations (the only national charity supporting people affected by anorexia, bulimia and other eating disorders) Leap Confronting Conflict (working in the field of conflict resolution and young people) NAZ Project London (the longest established and largest sexual health charity serving the black and ethnic minority communities in London).

Said Nan Williams, chief executive of Four Communications: 'We were inspired by what Impetus does and - more importantly - how it does it. As well as supporting their marketing we are launching our own 'Management Impetus Programme' which gives our young high-flyers of the future the chance to get involved in charitable work in a very business-like fashion and to experience operating in a different environment; all while working at Four. 'This gives the Impetus charities access to some of the best young PR and marketing professionals in the UK; and helps Four develop its staff in an innovative and rewarding way. Our staff will work with pioneering charities which are making a real-life difference in some really challenging, often not 'big brand' or fashionable, areas.'

Daniela Barone Soares, Chief Executive, Impetus commented: 'We are delighted to have entered into a partnership with Four. We see this as a further opportunity to build bridges between business and the not-for-profit sector. We believe the charities we have invested in will thrive through the professional approach that Four will bring.'
