1 February 2008: February 2008 saw the launch of Four Communications Digital team's latest website, a community portal for London Chinatown, the historic area in the heart of London's West End. The site, www.chinatownlondon.org, drew on resources from all parts of the Digital team and was developed purely in-house. Working for Shaftesbury Plc, the team have developed a site that communicates the full range of activities and services available in the area. The community portal was developed to create a digital identity for the area, raising awareness, providing a platform for the local community and ultimately drive footfall to the historic and lively area. The Chinatown PR team, also at Four, worked in tandem with Digital to provide much of the content.
Chris Pilbeam, Web Editor for the site, said, 'Having the ability to create an entire website in-house is really something. From the editorial side of things, it means that we can update the site constantly with the freshest news and stories, making it a genuinely valuable first port of call for anyone planning a visit to Chinatown.'
Shaftesbury are keen to encourage contribution, feedback and participation from the tenants of the area so it was essential that the site was easy to use, great to look at and visibly 'live' as soon as possible.
Phil Ryan, Head of Digital at Four, said, 'This is a fantastic site and a great example of what Four's Digital team can produce. Nowadays a site not only has to look good, against a whole host of competitor sites, but it has to have reasons for users to keep returning. With this in mind we ensured the site had functional as well as practical elements and content.'
