Arguably the UK’s most important event for emerging design, the 30th edition of New Designers was opened recently by Deyan Sudjic, director of the Design Museum.
Four Colman Getty has been using the anniversary to highlight the essential role that New Designers plays in the annual cycle of the design world, providing fresh talent ready for recruitment, year-on-year. A social media campaign with the hashtag #ND30yrs has been encouraging alumni from the show to get in touch and tell everyone about the career it helped to kick-start.
On the day of opening, Design Week reported on findings from a survey conducted by Four Colman Getty, revealing that four out of five of the 3,000 graduates are confident of finding employment in their first year, and expect to be earning £25,000 within five years.
Four Colman Getty has also been working hard to get the message out that design graduates are some of the most entrepreneurially minded, with over half expecting to be self-employed in five years’ time. Features on the fledging businesses selected for One Year On at New Designers have appeared in The Independent, London Evening Standard and The Times, with further coverage appearing in The Metro and Financial Times.
