This month Four Colman Getty launched the autobiography Mini & Me, by Michael Cooper, with a high profile publicity campaign and launch at the Groucho Club.
At the age of eleven, Michael was the subject of a television documentary made by filmmaker Franc Roddam, which chronicled Mini’s difficulties as a child in care, and caused public outrage on its release.
Since then, Mini has spent 38 years in and out of jails, secure mental health units and halfway houses, however, Franc and Mini have remained friends, and a few years ago, Franc gave Mini a computer to document his story, in Mini & Me.
Franc Roddam’s other filmmaking credits include making Quadrophenia and being the creator of series Auf Wiedersehen, Pet and Masterchef! Dotti Irving has worked with Franc for more than a decade, publicising the books released by his imprint Ziji Publishing.
The team worked with author Michael (nicknamed ‘Mini’) Cooper, and Franc on this book, securing interviews on BBC Radio 4 Midweek, BBC World Service Outlook and BBC 6 Music’s Radcliffe and Maconie Show, as well as print interviews in The Sunday Times News Review and The Big Issue.
The original documentary is due to be broadcast again this autumn on BBC 4. You can watch an extra now at www.zijipublishing.com.
