Four Colman Getty announces the Samuel Johnson shortlist

Today Four Colman Getty announced the shortlist for the Samuel Johnson Prize. Judges, Martin Rees, Astronomer Royal (chair of judges); classicist, Mary Beard; Director of Liberty, Shami Chakrabarti; historian, Peter Hennessy; and writer and non-fiction reviewer, James McConnachie; whittled down 18 books on the longlist to six books on the shortlist, ahead of the winner announcement on 4 November.

Earlier this month longlist coverage was achieved across the national broadsheets online, as well as a piece written by judge James McConnachie for The Guardian’s Week in Books.

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the prize and create excitement ahead of the shortlist announcement, Four Colman Getty also commissioned a fantastic animated video which can be watched on the Samuel Johnson Prize website.

The shortlisted authors will be speaking at public events at The Times Cheltenham Literature Festival on 6 October and at the Southbank Centre on 3 November.
