Four Gulf celebrated in style when the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship was awarded the Best Use of PR in Sport at the annual Sports Industry Awards (SPIAs) in Dubai.
The popular event, which has seen the Gulf team handle PR for the past five years and social media over the past two in partnership with client IMG, also won the Live Experience at a Professional Sports Event, as well as the prize for Best Integrated Sport Marketing campaign.
In the presence of almost 600 of the region’s leading industry figures, the SPIA ceremony recognised the excellence and innovation of the UAE’s sports industry.
The Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, which is owned and operated by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, welcomed some of the game’s biggest names to the UAE earlier this year, including world number one Jordan Spieth and four-time Major winner Rory McIlroy.
This year’s PR campaign saw the Gulf team develop a programme of ‘mini media spikes’, creative stunts and community activations that drove widespread footfall to the tournament, helped to increase Arab and Emirati content and media engagement, whilst underlining Abu Dhabi’s position as the leading event on the European Tour’s ‘Gulf Swing’.
