In late July Four bgb’s Kylie Jenkins took a media group to Barbados to rub shoulders with the rich and famous including Rihanna, Jourdan Dunn and Lewis Hamilton at the annual Crop Over Festival celebrations.
When we say ‘rub shoulders’ we really mean to run down the road next to a jump van during the Grand Kadooment Day parade to try and get a good enough picture of Rihanna. Although Kylie did manage to get invited onto Jourdan Dunn’s truck to grab some great pictures.
The group, including journalists from Daily Mirror, Woman, Woman’s Own, InStyle and EnglishMum.com were treated to the best the island has to offer. The itinerary included everything from sailing around the coast and snorkelling amongst the exotic marine life, to helping save just hatched baby turtles so the conservation team could release them on a dark secluded beach, and exploring the island in a safari jeep. The group ended the trip ‘jumpin’ till 4am on Foreday Morning listening to Soca music and sampling the islands rum all night long.
If you don’t know what Soca is, check this out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiVQJ2xMbxo – this was the ‘on de road’ anthem for Crop Over 2015.
The Crop Over Festival, culminating in Grand Kadooment Day, marks the end of the sugar cane harvest season and it’s a time for Bajan’s to kick back and party. It is the best time to be on the island and experience its incredible buzz.
Kylie is already planning her costume for next year’s Crop Over Festival which promises to be bigger and better than ever to celebrate 50 years of Barbados Independence.
