Sculpture in the City

© Clive TotmanLast week saw the launch of Sculpture in the City 2013, the third edition of a major public art exhibition organised by the City of London that takes place in the exciting cluster of skyscrapers and around the Gherkin. It’s a fantastic programme that demonstrates how the City of London is leading the way in innovative ways for local authorities to bring world-class art to the streets of their cities. Working with partners Hiscox, British Land, Aviva, Aon, Brookfield Office Properties and 30 St. Mary Axe (IVG-Europe) and art galleries including Pace Gallery, White Cube and the Lisson Gallery the show is already bringing joy to City workers and visitors.Artists this year include Antony Gormley, Richard Wentworth, Shirazeh Houshiary, Ryan Gander and Jake & Dinos Chapman, whose dinosaurs installed at the base of the Gherkin have been a magnet for photographers and diarists alike! Our work has involved targeting not just the arts pages, but specialist, sector and local press to ensure the key messages of the partners is reflected in the coverage and our work on the exhibition continues: we are now working with the team to programme, as part of the Frieze VIP Event programme, a high-profile debate on public art – at the top of the Gherkin!
