New statistics show a big splash is needed on family holidays

- Recent survey finds that today’s average teenager is glued to their gadgets for two hours per day –

The average teenager spends nearly two hours a day on social networking sites whilst on the annual family holiday, a survey from 72 Point, conducted Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai has revealed. The same poll discovered that there is a solution to driving children away from technology and spending time as a family on holiday, and it comes with an exhilarating splash.  The results found that the most popular experience that children look for on a holiday is visiting a waterpark; a place where all of the family can share the experience.

The survey went on to discover that a third of parents claim their children barely look up from their iPhone or Blackberry’s while on holiday and are more concerned about keeping in touch with friends back home than spending time with the family. Whilst 20 per cent of parents claim to have urged their adolescents to get more involved with activities on offer at holiday resorts. The poll found that updating Facebook was the most popular social media activity. One in ten teenagers like to upload holiday pictures to Instagram and 40 per cent are hooked on online games.

Atlantis – the flagship resort on The Palm, Dubai – carried out the research to learn more about its guests of all ages and their current interests, as a way of developing the resort’s overall experience and in particular the family activities.   Options included beach trips, exploring, and visiting historical sites and museums – but visiting a waterpark took more than half the share of votes.

The insightful findings from the survey support the resort’s current development to revolutionise their waterpark landscape with the new expansion of Aquaventure Waterpark – the number one waterpark in Europe and the Middle East.  An already iconic feature of the resort, Aquaventure, is currently undergoing a huge expansion set to open in September featuring a new soaring 40-metre tower – The Tower of Poseidon - packed with heart pumping rides.

We can certainly encourage the family to spend some quality bonding time together, as well as have lots of fun, when they come to Atlantis on holiday.”
