On 11 March, Jerwood Charitable Foundation and Film and Video Umbrella (FVU) unveiled brand new moving-image works created by the winners of the Jerwood/FVU Awards 2015. The initiative provides much needed support for early career artists working in moving-image, offering them major commissioning bursaries to create new films, coupled with valuable production support from FVU.
To date it has awarded funds totalling £112,000 to support some of the most exciting new talents to emerge on the contemporary art scene, with this year’s winners being Lucy Clout and Marianna Simnett. Both were awarded £20,000 to produce works that respond to the curatorial brief, ‘What Will They See of Me?’ which premiered in an exhibition at Jerwood Space, on show until 26 April.
The results are two accomplished films which explore the uncertainties and ambiguities of identity and firmly place Lucy and Marianna as ‘ones to watch’ in the world of moving-image.
