The ‘Topping Out’ of a building is an important construction milestone, often marked by the placing of a traditional yew branch at the highest point of a building to ward off evil spirits. For HOME, the new purpose-built multi-artform centre that will open in Manchester next spring, representatives from key funders Manchester City Council, construction partners Wates, architects Mecanoo and the artistic team made their way up to the top of the building. For a memorable and appealing visual moment, we arranged for the stakeholders to ‘make themselves at HOME’ in a specially created rooftop living room. Having announced Danny Boyle as the first HOME patron in December, we have a range of announcements coming up in the next few weeks, including more high-profile patrons and an exciting site-specific theatre programme which will introduce audiences to the creative energy of HOME theatre.
