Happy Birthday Man Booker

This year we’re celebrating the Man Booker’s 50th anniversary, encouraging readers to discover five decades of the finest fiction. And what better way to get people reading than with a bit of friendly competition? This month we launched the ferociously difficult #ManBooker50 Challenge: read as many of the previous 51 winners (in 1974 and 1992 there were joint winners) by May and document your progress on Instagram for a chance to win a pair of tickets to the Man Booker 50 Festival at the Southbank Centre.

Readers have risen to the task in their droves with beautiful book posts filling the #ManBooker50 hashtag and YouTubers sharing their favourites from the last 50 years, including this great video from Lonesome Reader. Not be outdone, several of the Man Booker team are also taking part. Nisha Emich is using her Man Booker 50th anniversary diary to document her reading as she systematically tackles one winner each week from 1969 to 2017, before sharing the plotlines on the official Man Booker Instagram channel. Dotti, who celebrates her own 25th anniversary of working on the prize this year, is also giving it a go (although she has a bit of a head start), alongside Jonathan Taylor, the President of the Booker Prize Foundation.

We hope you’ll join us in revisiting the previous winners of the prize, either in book form or live at our Festival in London’s SouthBank from 6-8 July, for which the programme and tickets will be available from March.
