Four Colman Getty has been jet setting off to Tunisia, India and Majorca this month:The International Prize for Arabic Fiction (IPAF) travelled to Tunisia this month, announcing its 2013 shortlist from Tunis’ Municipal Theatre. The capital was in high spirits as it prepared to celebrate the second anniversary of the Tunisian Revolution and a festival atmosphere entered proceedings, especially when it was announced that a Tunisian author had made the shortlist. An evening of discussions and music followed, attended by the Minister of Culture, the British Council’s Director in Tunisia, ambassadors, authors and journalists.The announcement of the Man Booker International Prize was made from the Jaipur Literature Festival in India. The diverse list of ten authors made headlines worldwide, whilst the Man Booker International team enjoyed the hospitality of Princess Diya Kumari at the City Palace in Jaipur. Guests arrived to a welcome parade of horses, elephants and camels, before being showered in rose petals and garlanded with roses. The cream of Jaipur society met authors who were speaking at the festival, as well as the Man Booker International judges, Sir Christopher Ricks (Chair), Elif Batuman, Aminatta Forna, Yiyun Li and Tim Parks.
