Last weekend an excited contingent of Four bgb-ers headed to the sunny seaside. However, it wasn’t Brighton’s fish and chips or sea views that enticed the team but the first ever Traverse, a travel blogger conference created as a platform for more novice members of the travel blogging community to gain insight and knowledge into the various aspects of their craft for application in their own work.
Throughout Saturday, top bloggers and industry specialists delivered engaging workshops and talks on topics as diverse as freelance writing, SEO, video editing and media pitching.
Several of the conference’s particularly prominent speakers (including Four’s social media account director Ruth Haffenden) were also selected to host Pro-Bar sessions throughout the day, which took the form of ten-minute slots in the style of Apple’s Genius Bars, offering bloggers the opportunity for one-on-one advice and consultation.
The day ended with a Question Time style panel discussion, hosted by Kevin May, founder and editor of Tnooz. Four’s Ruth Haffenden was joined on the panel by full-time blogger Jodi Ettenberg, full time blogger Will Peach and Carol Driver, group editor TNT Magazine and TNT Downunder.
Feedback on Twitter and on the ground throughout the conference was overwhelmingly positive. The organisers had surveyed their attendees ahead of the event to find out what topics they wanted to see covered and the bloggers were therefore getting the most out of their day. This gave the event an electric atmosphere, and #Traverse13 was trending by lunchtime.
Traverse has emerged as a serious competitor in the growing market of conferences aiming to reach the large and influential world of travel bloggers. The Four bgb team were warmly welcomed, and look forward to future projects with this vibrant and talented community.
