RISING, a new Global Peace Forum was launched this month with a specially filmed message to the world from Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
Speakers confirmed for the inaugural event in November include Rt Hon Gordon Brown, Terry Waite CBE, and Michael Binyon OBE.
Delivered through a partnership between Coventry City Council, Coventry University and Coventry Cathedral, it will coincide with both Armistice Day and the 75th anniversary of the Coventry Blitz on 14 November 1940.
Coventry is the ultimate example of 'it's what you do next', establishing for itself - starting in the midst of wartime devastation - an international reputation as a centre of peace and reconciliation. It's one of the defining points of the city on the international stage and, as it bids for UK City of Culture 2021, all eyes will be on Coventry this November.
The project adds another string to the bow of Colman Getty’s work in the field of cultural regeneration – helping towns and cities around the UK refine their offer and change perceptions, increasing awareness both nationally and internationally.
