40 years of adventure travel

On Wednesday 22 January, Four bgb co-hosted a TravMedia event to celebrate Exodus’ 40th anniversary. Over 120 media and over 110 industry members packed out the room in Simpson’s in the Strand to celebrate forty years of adventure travel, and everyone agreed the event was a huge success.Exodus’ photographer and tour leader Paul Goldstein– name-checked by TravMedia’s Howard Salinger as “Mr Exodus” – regaled the crowd with irreverent stories and hilarious photos from 1974 up to the present day, and informed them of the contribution of hard work, can-do attitude, wet wipes and Angel Delight in Exodus’ success. The company has come a long way since two friends got together to drive to the Minaret of Jam, deep in the heart of the Hindu Kush (the most inaccessible of the world’s great monuments), and nowadays offers over 500 walking, culture, cycling, winter, family and wildlife holidays in over 90 countries, from walking along the Amalfi Coast to expeditions to the North Pole in nuclear-powered ice-breakers.The evening was topped off with a competition that challenged TravMedia attendees to caption an image of an Exodus traveller stood overlooking Mount Toubkal, and the loudest gale of laughter announced that freelance journalist Debbie Ward had won £1,000 to put towards an Exodus holiday of her choice, as well as a canvas print of one of Paul’s astounding wildlife shots.Guests left with 70s themed gift bags and 40th birthday cakes, and with a bit more knowledge about this remarkable company. Four bgb and Exodus were thrilled with the event, and would like to thank TravMedia for its resounding success.
